Embracing Memories

By Sp/4 Jeff Balduini & Sgt Kain Horn

These bracelets are worn by the present-day LRRPs (LRS) of the present E-51st Infantry who have been serving in Kosovo. The names are those of our fallen brothers from our company that “gave all” while serving in Vietnam

It is an honor for me to pay tribute to those who gave all. I am also very proud to be a member of E/51st. We had the bracelets engraved just being deployed and received them down range. Why did we decide on KIA bracelets? Easy, because LRRPs and Rangers don’t leave anyone behind! No POW’s nor MIA’s. You guys brought them ‘back’: your brothers fallen. I thank you for all for making the sacrifices you did for our country and our way of life. I also thank you for placing these pictures in Sua Sponte. Well, I don’t have too much else to say; I will turn this over to Sgt. Horn. Take care and God Bless...RLTW...Jeff Balduini!

“Eyes Behind the Lines”

by Sgt. Horn

I initially began reading about LRP/LRRP/Ranger units in Vietnam long before I joined the Army. I was impressed with the missions that they did and the tightly, knit brotherhood that seemed prevalent in those units. It wasn’t until I joined E/51st Inf (LRS) (Abn) that I began to realize the difficulty of the missions and the type of man necessary to complete them. I’m sure it wasn’t a job for just anyone, and while the times may have changed, that fact has not. It still takes a rugged, highly competent, and some would say slightly crazy individual to do the job. While we continually work at the rugged, highly competent standard (A standard you see as LRRP, LRP, Rangers, LRS) we think we’ve got the slightly crazy aspects down.

These bracelets, presently worn by the men of E/51st are in honor of: SSG Edward Lenz; SGT James Davidson; SP4 Terry Allen; SP4 Ramon Hernandez; and SP4 Jose Torres. The commanding officer and men of the E/ 51st were so impressed with this undertaking that now the names of all fallen LRRPs/Rangers of our Association will be worn by these present day warriors. This covers our entire losses from 1966-1971; et al. Photos courtesy of Balduini and Horn.

To all LRRPs, Rangers of your Association, I would like to say thank you. We are proud of you and the mission that you so successfully performed. And we are extremely proud to carry the E/51st Colors.

Your sacrifices are not forgotten and neither are your fallen comrades.

We will do our very best to uphold the prestige, honor, and the high esprit de corps of E 51st.

SGT Horn
